Rays vs. Rangers Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, June 1 (Contrarian Over is the Look)
By Reed Wallach
The Rangers look to pull a shocking sweep of the Rays on Wednesday.
Texas has climbed back to .500 after a slow start to 2022 and now look to complete a 3 game sweep of the AL Pennant contending Rays on Wednesday night. With free agent signing Jon Gray taking the mound, can the Rangers get over the hump?
Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:
Rays vs. Rangers Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Rays: -1.5 (+135)
- Rangers: +1.5 (-165)
Moneyline:
- Rays: -115
- Rangers: +105
Total: 7.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
Rays vs. Rangers Prediction and Pick
The Rangers offense has been coming alive of late, doing well against left handed pitching, now inside the top 10 in OPS against those pitchers. Texas has been 5th in wRC+ since May 15th as the team has stabilized after several offseason signings like Marcus Siemian and Corey Seager have struggled.
The team will face former Ranger Jeffrey Springs on Wednesday, who has a strong ERA of 1.62, but his FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) hints that he is benefitted form some luck in the field, sitting more than a run higher at 2.96. With his strikeout rate down nearly 4 K's per 9 innings this season, he has benefitted from not allowing a ton of hits (less than 6 per 9 innings). That can come back to haunt him with the Rangers finding their stride on offense.
As for the Rangers, Gray has struggled a ton with his new club, with an ERA north of 5.50 this year. He has only pitched once at home, and it hasn't been pretty in the hitter friendly GlobeLife Park in Arlington. In that lone start he pitched 5.2 innings and he allowed 4 earned runs on 8 hits. Not that that's so indicative, but Gray's struggles have been going on all year and I can't get behind him with a total this low.
I'm looking to the over with hitters in line to have big nights at the dish.
LEAN: OVER 7.5
