The Boston Red Sox made a major splash in the free agent market on Sunday, as they reportedly agreed to a six-year deal with star infielder Trevor Story.

The move makes a dangerous Boston team that much better, just a year after the Red Sox made it to the ALCS against the Houston Astros. Story will be a major upgrade for Boston in the lineup, as the All-Star shortstop hit 24 home runs and drove in 75 runs last season.

Despite that, the Red Sox have a win total prediction at WynnBET Sportsbook that doesn't rival other contenders in the AL East. In fact, Boston has the No. 4 projected win total in the division.

Boston Red Sox Win Total Prediction

The Red Sox are projected to win 88 games in the 2022 season, while the New York Yankess (92), Toronto Blue Jays (92.5) and Tampa Bay Rays (89.5) are all ahead of them.

Toronto made some major moves this offseason, acquiring Matt Chapman and Yusei Kikuchi to bolster their roster. While the Yankees didn't make any major moves, oddsmakers are clearly bullish on their current roster.

Boston bettors and fans should feel a bit disrespected that the team is predicted to finish below two teams that it finished ahead of last season. Story may not be the biggest acquisition this offseason, but he certainly rivals the biggest in the division.

Boston's pitching staff is a bit of a concern, but Toronto has yet to improve its already struggling bullpen from last season. As for New York, it still needs to fix it's hole at catcher, and there needs to be more proven pitchers on the staff behind Gerrit Cole and Luis Severino.

Essentially, Boston may have a hard team reaching this win total because of the strength of the division, but oddsmakers may be overvaluing other teams as well. Story and the Red Sox will look to take advantage of that in 2022.
