After a 6-5 loss to Boston in extra innings last night, the 27-30 Los Angeles Angels have now lost 13 consecutive games. Manager Joe Maddon was fired yesterday, but the Angels are still searching for answers ahead of tonight's 9:38 p.m. EST contest with the 29-27 Red Sox.

Los Angeles will turn to Reid Detmers, who kept the Yankees scoreless in his last outing, albeit only over 4.1 innings. Detmers has a 2-2 record and 4.20 ERA on the year, though at home he's compiled an impressive 3.10 ERA over five outings.

Nathan Eovaldi gets the call for Boston after throwing six shutout innings against Oakland last week. He's thrown a quality start in six of his last eight outings and has a 3.41 ERA on the season.

Can Eovaldi keep the Angels' streak of futility going or will Los Angeles finally get back in the win column behind Detmers?

Red Sox vs Angels Prediction and Pick

I really thought the Angels were going to get a win last night. They squandered leads of 2-0 and 5-3 before ultimately losing in the 10th. To add injury to insult, superstar Mike Trout left the game with groin tightness as Los Angeles tied the franchise record for longest losing streak.

We've seen the Angels blow winnable games plenty during this stretch, but this particular loss felt like a knockout punch.

Boston, meanwhile, has rattled off six straight wins and are in great position to make it seven straight behind Nathan Eovaldi today. The 32-year-old righty has been sublime on the road, amassing a 2.48 ERA over six outings. He's in the 94th percentile in walk percentage and his 3.13 expected FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) implies his hot stretch is no fluke.

The Red Sox have been one of the best road teams in baseball over the last month. They're 9-2 over their last 11 on the road and have the third-best run differential on the road in the league.

Reid Detmers has a ton of potential, as evidenced by the no-hitter he threw last month, but his expected FIP (4.65) is much worse than Eovaldi's and the Angels have lost three straight when he starts.

Against a road powerhouse like Boston and after such a heart-wrenching loss, I don't see how Los Angeles wins this one without Trout. Back the Red Sox to keep rolling and improve to 20-10 on the run line away from home.

Pick: Red Sox -1.5 (+105)
