The Toronto Blue Jays have been on a tear to start the 2022 season. Good news for a franchise that hasn’t won a World Series since the ‘90s. Bad news for the Boston Red Sox and starter Michael Wacha. Though, the Red Sox season has been full of bad news so far.

Entering Wednesday, the Red Sox have lost four in a row and seven of their last nine. They are 7-11 overall and rank fourth in the competitive AL East.

Toronto took the first two games of this series by a combined score of 12-7, and the Red Sox will have another uphill battle tonight with the blazing hot Blue Jays in Game 3.

Red Sox vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Pick

While the Red Sox have been pretty awful to start the season, there have been a few bright spots. One of those bright spots has been starter Michael Wacha. Wacha enters this game with a 1-0 record, 1.88 ERA, and 0.91 WHIP. He was lights out in his first two starts, but did stumble last week against the Rays. Wacha gave up two home runs in five innings against the Rays in a winning effort. Wacha will face his toughest test yet against the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays rank fifth in the MLB in batting average, first in home runs per game, and first in total bases. They aren’t the most explosive offense around, but they know how to get the job done.

Now, for the bad. The Blue Jays do have one early weak spot and his name is Ross Stripling. I don’t mean to single him out, but he needs to get it together if he hopes to keep his spot on this rotation. Stripling is currently sporting a 4.50 ERA in his first four appearances of the year. He is averaging just two innings pitched per game and has a questionable strikeout to walk rate of 5:4.

While Stripling gives the Blue Jays their worst chance to win, I think they still eke out a victory here. The Red Sox are struggling at the plate and I am not sold on Wacha long-term. I think a meltdown is on the horizon and it might happen tonight in Toronto.

Pick: Blue Jays -136 to win
