Are the Boston Red Sox in trouble?

Boston entered Monday with a 77 percent chance at FiveThirtyEight of making the postseason, but that number has fallen to just 60 percent after it lost to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.

To make matters worse for Boston, the Seattle Mariners are now just half a game behind them for the final wild card spot and have a chance to sweep the Oakland Athletics tonight

Losing to the lowly Orioles is the last thing that Red Sox fans expected, but after winning six straight games earlier in the month, Boston has now lost four straight to fall two games back of the wild-card-leading New York Yankees.

Boston will send Nathan Eovaldi (10-9, 3.88 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday against Zac Lowther (1-2, 7.66 ERA) as it tries to get back on track. WynnBET has Boston as a massive -260 road favorite and they are 2.5-run favorites as well. The total is set at 9.5 runs.

Orioles vs. Red Sox Prediction and Pick

Boston opened the season by getting swept by the Orioles, but since then it is 12-2 in this matchup.

I can’t see the Red Sox losing to Baltimore again, but I’m not sure how comfortable I am in taking them to cover the run line at 2.5.

Instead, I’m going to take the over in this matchup as Lowther has allowed 10 earned runs in 5.2 innings against Boston this season.

Given Boston’s struggles in the bullpen (as evidenced by last night and the team’s losses to the Yankees this weekend), I think there’s a chance the Orioles will be able to scratch across a few runs as well once Eovaldi exits.
