Red Sox vs. Tigers Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, April 13 (Back Boston on the Road)
By Matt De Saro
The Boston Red Sox are coming off a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, evening the series at one game apiece. But, despite their success, the Red Sox still have one of the worst offenses in the MLB after the first week of games. Boston has the second-worst batting average in the league at .173 and ranks dead-last in on-base percentage.
The Tigers' offense isn’t doing much better and is just above the Mendoza line at .203. Detroit is also amongst the lowest-scoring teams in the league with just 11 runs through their first five games.
Nathan Eovaldi and Eduardo Rodriguez are scheduled to start this rubber match.

Red Sox vs. Tigers Prediction and Pick
While the offenses are the major problem with these two teams out of the gate, their pitching isn’t helping matters. The Tigers, in particular, are struggling on the mound with a 4.75 team ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. They do lead the league with six walks but also have just 19 total strikeouts in five games. Rodriguez started the year off poorly after giving up three runs on four hits over four innings against the White Sox. It’s not an encouraging sign for the southpaw who is coming off his worst ERA as a pro in 2021 at 4.74.
Eovaldi saw his fair share of struggles in his debut as well. He labored through five innings of work against the Yankees in a losing effort. Eovaldi gave up two home runs and finished the day with an ERA of 5.40. He had a decent Spring but I don’t have a ton of faith in Eovaldi moving forward.
I think there is a higher ceiling for the Red Sox offense and am willing to build on their Game 2 win with another strong performance on Wednesday.
Pick: Red Sox -120
