Right off the bat, I’ll say that I love the value of the Flames on the puck line in this game. Calgary is objectively a much better team than the Red Wings and already proved that once this year. Now the Red Wings are getting blown out by last-place teams and look even more vulnerable than they did in that initial matchup. Meanwhile, the Flames lead the Pacific Division with a five-point lead over the Kings and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. They average 3.48 goals per game and score nearly a quarter of the time they are on the power play. The Flames' defense is also top-notch and allows less than 2.5 goals per game which ranks them second in the NHL. While Calgary scores around 25 percent of the time when on a power play, they stop opponents 85 percent of the time when playing shorthanded. The Red Wings are so bad that none of this really matters, but I just want to drive the point home as to just how much of a mismatch this game is.
