The Minnesota Wild have torn through the NHL in recent weeks. They're 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, and have sole possession of second place in both the Central Division, and the Western Conference as a whole. They can build on their momentum tonight when they take on the Detroit Red Wings, who are desperately searching for as many wins as possible as they attempt to get back into the playoff picture.

Tonight's game will serve as the first of two meetings between these two teams this season.

Believe it or not, if you dive into advanced analytics, the Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota Wild aren't far off from each other. The Red Wings rank 15th in CORSI%. the Wild rank 18th over their last 10 games. They also rank 18th and 21st in high danger scoring chances.

The problem with looking at advanced analytics is sometimes you lose sight of the forest while looking at the trees. Over each team's last 10 games, the Wild rank third in both shooting percentage and team save percentage. You can overcome a lot of poor play in the neutral zone if you take accurate shots and get solid play from your goaltenders.

For those reasons, the Wild are a tricky team to handicap. Because of how solid their goaltending is, and I don't have much faith in the Red Wings offense, I'm going to look at the total instead and lean towards the UNDER 6 at -105.
