The Cincinnati Reds finally beat the Milwaukee Brewers after getting embarrassed by them earlier in the season. To be fair, most teams that have played the Reds have embarrassed them this season. But, the Reds managed to take Game 1 of this series on Monday and now have a winning percentage over .200 for the first time since the first week of the year. The next closest team is the Tigers with a win rate over .280.

This does nothing to deter me from continuing my campaign betting against the Reds for as long as I can stomach it. It helps that the Reds keep winning games on days that I am not writing about them. Not sure this counts as a trend, but it sure has helped me record along.

Brewers vs. Reds Prediction and Pick

Vladimir Gutierrez got destroyed by the Brewers last week to the tune of seven runs in 4 ⅓ innings. He gave up two home runs and walked two batters along the way. His ERA now sits at 8.86 with a WHIP of 2.02. Gutierrez has now given up 13 runs in his last 7 ⅓ innings and the Reds have lost all five of his starts this year.

In comparison, Adrian Houser’s 3.42 ERA looks pretty damn good. Milwaukee’s starter for this game did struggle against the Reds last week, but I think this is more of a slip-up than something to expect moving forward. Before that game, which the Brewers still won, Houser held the Cubs scoreless over six innings. Houser gets another crack at one of the worst offenses in baseball and I don’t think he drops the ball again.

Pick: OVER / Lean: Brewers ML
