Reds vs. Cardinals Prediction and Odds for Saturday, June 11 (Value on Over)
By Reed Wallach
The Cincinnati Reds, once the laughingstock of baseball, have been competitive over the last month or so. Now, they will look to continue their fine play with rookie Hunter Greene on the mound.
Greene has been a feast or famine pitcher, full of strikeout power but also prone to getting roughed up a bit. He will have a stiff test on Saturday against a vaunted Cardinals lineup that has a ton of power and is disciplined at the plate.
What can we expect on Saturday afternoon? Here are the odds from consensus sportsbooks:
Reds vs. Cardinals Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Reds: +1.5 (-130)
- Cardinals: -1.5 (+110)
Moneyline:
- Reds: +155
- Cardinals: -180
Total: 8 (Over -110/Under -110)
Reds vs. Cardinals Prediction and Pick
Greene has incredible stuff, punching out nearly 12 batters per 9 innings, but also has allowed more than 2 home runs per 9 innings and walks nearly 3 batters per 9 innings. He has an ERA of 5.40 which is supported by a FIP of 5.44. It's been an up-and-down season for the rookie.
He will be up against a Cards team that has the fourth lowest strikeout rate in the big league and is right around league average in slugging percentage. They should have little issue putting runners in scoring position and plating runs against Greene and the Reds bullpen that is last in ERA.
On the other hand, Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright has been fantastic in his age 40 season, but he can be due for some negative regression. He sports a 2.73 ERA but his FIP is nearly 1 run higher and he will be facing a hot Reds lineup. Since May 29th, the Reds are fourth in the Major Leagues in on-base percentage.
I don't trust Greene to hold up his end of the bargain and the Reds lineup can get to Wainwright, who may be coming back down to Earth after a hot start. I'll look to the over with it sitting at a low mark of 8.
LEAN: OVER 8
