The Cardinals are gaining on the Brewers in the NL Central and sit only a half game back, but a sweep at the hands of the Rays didn’t help their cause. Luckily for St. Louis, Milwaukee has lost six straight. The Cardinals will try to finally overtake their division rivals with this three game set against Cincinnati.

The Reds are no longer the worst team in baseball, climbing up to 20-37 only a few games behind the Cubs in their quest to get out of the basement in the Central. Friday, the turn to Luis Castillo on the mound while St. Louis goes with Andre Pallante.

Reds vs. Cardinals Prediction and Pick

The Cardinals and Brewers both face some of the worst teams in the NL this weekend as they battle for the top spot in that division. The Cardinals are too good of an organization and too consistent to let an opportunity like this pass them by. Their next seven games are against the Reds and Pirates. Need to pad some wins against the bottom feeders.

Andre Pallante is a rookie who has done most of his work this year out of the bullpen.  This will be his second start of the year, and last time he went four and only gave up one run.  He has an ERA of 1.23, which only jumped up to over 1.00 in his last two outings.

Luis Castillo, on the other side, has been right around his career numbers and has a FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) slightly better than his 3.55 ERA. This should be a good pitching matchup for Cincinnati and maybe their best chance of winning a game in this series, but St. Louis is too good to lose four straight.

Pick: Cardinals -1.5 (+152)
