After splitting the first two games of the series, the 39-32 San Francisco Giants host the 24-47 Cincinnati Reds at 4:05 PM EST this afternoon.

Tyler Mahle hopes to give the Reds a series victory though struggled against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last start, allowing four runs on 12 hits in six innings of work. He's been stellar this month though, amassing a 2.67 ERA with a complete game shutout of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

San Francisco turns to Anthony DeSclafani in his fifth start of the campaign. DeSclafani has a 7.71 ERA and got pounded by the Braves last week, giving up five runs and two home runs in just three innings.

Which pitcher can rebound from a poor last start to give their team the edge? To find out, let's first peak at the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook for this Reds vs Giants matchup:

Reds vs Giants Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Reds +1.5 (-160)
  • Giants -1.5 (+130)

Moneyline:

  • Reds: +143
  • Giants: -153

Total:

  • 8.0 (Over +100/Under -120)

Reds vs Giants Prediction and Pick

Cincinnati is 1-8 over its last nine games, but I believe the Reds should be favored today and am thrilled to back Tyler Mahle at +143 odds.

Before a hiccup against the Dodgers last week, Mahle allowed only four runs total in his four previous starts, good for a 1.32 ERA. His 3.31 expected ERA suggests he's been extremely unlucky this year and we've seen him turn things around of late as a result.

Anthony DeSclafani, meanwhile, has been dreadful since returning to the Giants rotation from injury. He has a 5.23 expected ERA and gave up four home runs in his last two starts. DeSclafani has yet to make it past the fifth inning, and his opponent expected batting average of .307 is significantly worse than Mahle's (.225).

San Francisco's bullpen is faltering and the Giants have one of the worst defenses in the sport. They're 2-5 over their last seven as their lineup is struggling as well, while the Reds are 4-2 in their last six as road underdogs.

With Mahle giving the Reds a huge advantage on the mound and the Giants lacking big advantages elsewhere, I'm stunned WynnBET is hanging +143 odds on Cincy. I'll take it though, and look for the Reds to get a series win as Mahle bounces back.

Pick: Reds +143
