The Cincinnati Reds are the early favorite to finish the season with the worst record in baseball. They are just 2-9 in their first 11 games and have a win percentage of just .182. They have a league-worst run differential of minus-27 and are riding a seven-game losing streak.

The Reds closed out a three-game series against the San Diego Padres after dropping Game 1 on Monday 4-1. To be fair, the Reds have had a brutal schedule to start the year with series against the Braves, Guardians, and Dodgers.

The Padres are 7-5 after winning back-to-back games against the Braves and Reds. But their offense has been very limp over the last four games. The Padres have a combined six runs scored in their last four games. San Diego has been held to two runs or less in five of their last seven games overall.

Reds vs. Padres Prediction and Pick

While I am scared a bit by how quiet the Friars’ bats have been in the last week, they are playing against the Reds. A team that is destined to finish the season as one of the worst few teams in the MLB. The Reds are going to start Vladimir Gutierrez against the Padres after two shaky starts.

In two starts, Gutierrez is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.92 WHIP. He has yet to give up a home run but it's taken him 154 pitches to go less than nine innings. He finished 2021 with a 4.78 ERA and 1.45 WHIP and has regressed slightly to start the year.

On the flip side, the Padres are starting Mackenzie Gore on Wednesday afternoon. He started the season strong against the Braves. In 5 ⅓ innings, Gore has up to three hits, two earned runs, and one home run. He struck out three and walked two. Not bad for an MLB debut.

Gore has the perfect matchup to build upon that initial start. The Reds are an absolute bet-against team until they level out some. Assuming they do.

Pick: Padres RL
