The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds continue their four-game series this evening at PNC Park. Despite featuring two of the worst teams in baseball, I expect them to match up well and produce an exciting game to end the week.

This is a rematch of last weekend's series where the Pirates took two of three games from the Reds by a combined score of 24-15. So, not only exciting but some very high scoring games from these teams.

Reds vs. Pirates Prediction and Pick

I believe the high-scoring games between these two teams are not yet over thanks to some rough starting pitchers in this game. The Reds will trot out Tyler Mahle while the Pirates counter with Mitch Keller. Neither has looked good at all and with a combined 1-7 W/L record.

Oddly, the pair match up very well against each other in terms of H2H stats. Keller is 0-4 with a 6.11 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. Mahle’s numbers are slightly worse with an ERA of 6.46 and WHIP of 1.57. He does have one win at least.

Those who follow this site daily will know I haven’t bet on the Reds once this year. In fact, I have been vocal about auto-fading them until they show signs of life. I think that time is now unfortunately as I had a lot of fun watching the Reds lose their way into the history books. Heading into this series, the Reds are 4-2 SU in their last six games. Not a huge feat by most, but they doubled their season wins in four games. They also took two games from a very good Brewers team.

While my blind fades of the Reds are coming to an end, that does not mean I trust them enough to bet on them. I do think that both offenses have been on fire and warrant an OVER pick with such poor starters on the mound.

Pick: OVER
