It appears the Cincinnati Reds finally remembered how to play baseball. After starting the season with a 3-22 record, the Reds have won six of their last eight games. While this is undoubtedly a good sign for the Reds, it’s worth noting that four of those six wins came against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsburg, along with Cincy, is considered one of the worst teams in the league so beating them is not a tall order.

I’m not sold on the Reds' resurgence and want to see how they fare against the Guardians and Blue Jays next week. But, for now, the Reds seem capable enough to continue winning games against the Pirates at PNC Park.

Reds vs. Pirates Prediction and Pick

While the Reds are doing good work in Pittsburgh, I think their luck will run out by the time Game 4 rolls around this afternoon. The major reason for this is their starting pitcher Hunter Greene. Greene enters this series finale with a 7.62 ERA and 1.81 WHIP over 26 innings of work. But it gets worse. On the road, Greene’s ERA is 8.83 and balloons to 12.91 in day games. The rookie is now 0-5 in his last five starts. The Reds have lost all of those games.

Jose Quintana will face off against Greene. He has been one of the biggest surprises this season and is having a career year at age 33. Quintana enters this series finale with a 2.70 ERA and 1.20 WHIP and represents one of the few bright spots on this roster. His most recent start saw him pitch six scoreless innings against a strong Dodgers lineup. I am expecting some regression at some point, but I don’t think the Reds have the firepower to do much if Quintana pitches well.

Pick: Pirates +152 to win
