After a 4-3 loss yesterday pushed their losing streak to five, the hapless 3-18 Cincinnati Reds are looking for any reason to be optimistic as they take on the 12-9 Colorado Rockies today at 3:10 PM EST.

Reiver Sanmartin and his 10.91 ERA get the call for Cincy. Sanmartin is coming off a disastrous nine-run, three-inning meltdown against the Padres and has given up at least five runs in three of his four starts.

The Rockies will counter with Kyle Freeland, who has rebounded from a rough pair of starts to open the season to allow only three earned runs combined in his previous two outings.

Can Cincinnati show signs of life or will Colorado earn a sweep? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to help us find out ahead of this Reds vs Rockies matchup:

Reds vs Rockies Prediction and Pick

The Reds are setting a new gold standard for sucking.

They've lost 16 of their last 17 games, and yesterday was the first loss in that stretch that didn't come by multiple runs. I don't know why oddsmakers keep giving us reasonable lines against them, but we'll just keep stacking cash until sportsbooks realize how bad Cincy is.

I had high hopes for Reiver Sanmartin coming into the year but whew, has it ever been a disaster so far. He gave up 14 runs in just 8.1 innings over his last two outings and now gets to make his first career start at Coors Field, which doesn't typically go well.

Kyle Freeland seems to have settled down after a rough beginning to the year and has historically pitched pretty well in his home park. He kept a potent Phillies offense at bay in his last outing and will go to battle with a much worse lineup today. Cincinnati ranks dead last in the MLB in OPS and while their offense has played better of late, this is still a dreadful lineup top-to-bottom.

The Rockies are second in OPS and should have no problem tagging Sanmartin early. If you're going to be bad offensively, like the Reds are, then you better hope your pitching staff is good. Um, well, the Reds are also dead last in runs allowed per game. So they're the worst team at both scoring runs and preventing them. That's a lousy combination.

Until Cincy shows they're an actual baseball team capable of doing baseball things, I'm just going to keep fading them into oblivion. The Rockies roll today behind another solid outing from Freeland and a poor one from Sanmartin.

Pick: Rockies -1.5 (+115)
