Richmond vs. Providence Prediction and Odds for Second Round of NCAA Tournament
The Richmond Spiders pulled off the first upset of the tournament on Thursday, downing the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 12 vs. 5 game. Many people had Iowa has a dark horse pick to make a run in this year's tournament, but we were once again shown that we should expect the unexpected in March.
The Spiders will now face the Providence Friars from the Big East in the Round of 32. Providence survived a scare from South Dakota State, but got the job done in a 66-57 effort.

Richmond vs. Providence Prediction and Pick
Sometimes you have to tide the hot team, and right now, Richmond might be the hottest team in the NCAA Tournament. They're reminding me of last year's Oregon State team. In both instances, the team had to run the table in their respective conference tournaments to make it to the big dance, both were awarded a 12-seed, and both pulled off an upset nobody saw coming in the first round.
Oregon State's Cinderella run ended in the Elite 8, and I think Richmond has a legitimate chance of making it just as far. They've been playing strong defense on this run, and they don't turn the ball over, ranking 11th in turnovers per possession. Those are two key factors to a dark horse run.
Providence ended up taking down South Dakota State, but they didn't look particularly strong in the game. In fact, their effective field goal percentage over their past three games is over 5% lower than their season average. This time, they won't be able to bully their opponent down low like they did against the Jackrabbits.
Let's keep the Richmond train rolling.
Pick: Richmond +2.5
