Rocket Mortgage Classic Round 1 3-Ball Bets
We're not going to stick to just full tournament bets for this week's Rocket Mortgage Classic. We're going to dabble on some 3-ball bets for the first round as well.
3-ball bets are a bet on a golfer to finish with the lowest score amongst the group that he's playing in that day. For example, if Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy are playing in a group together, you can bet on any of the three to finish the round with the lowest score.
These bets are for the first round only, so you don't have to wait until the end of the tournament to find out if you've won.
Let's dive into my top three 3-ball bets for the opening round.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Round 1 3-ball bets
- Nick Hardy +175 vs. Kirk/Simpson
- Brendon Todd +160 vs. Reavie/Wallace
- Rickie Fowler +125 vs. Finau/Dahmen
Nick Hardy +175 vs. Kirk/Simpson
Nick Hardy has been playing solid golf lately, coming off a T20 finish at the US Open and a T38 finish at the Travelers Championship. More than anything else, this is a fade of Chris Kirk and Webb Simpson.
Kirk has missed three straight starts and Simpson has finished T52 or worse in four straight starts going back to March.
It's Hardy or no one for me in this group.
Brendon Todd +160 vs. Reavie/Wallace
This course fits Brendon Todd's style of play well. He's accurate off the tee and great with a short iron or wedge in his hand, which is key for Detroit Golf Club.
Chez Reavie may be coming off a great start at the Travelers Championship, but based on his season long numbers I don't think he's going to keep it up. Meanwhile, Matt Wallace has been terrible since winning the Corales Puntacana Championship in March, missing seven cuts since then and posting a best finish of T28.
Rickie Fowler +125 vs. Finau/Dahmen
It might be tough to fade the defending champion, but Tony Finau has been especially bad lately. He hasn't finished better than T23 since winning the Mexico Open in April, and he's coming off a T45 finish at the Travelers Championship.
Joel Dahmen has been even worse lately, missing three straight cuts and posting only one top 40 finish in all of 2023.
Give me Mr. Consistent, Rickie Fowler.
