Neither side is favored between Colorado and Arizona on Saturday afternoon as two left-handers take the mound. Madison Bumgarner makes his 18th start of the season for Arizona and Kyle Freeland takes the mound for the 17th time this year. Bumgarner is 4-8 with a 3.74 ERA. Freeland comes in with a record of 4-6 and a 4.43 ERA.

The two teams are lockstep at the bottom of the division fighting to claim fourth place as San Francisco free falls back to them.

Rockies vs. Diamondbacks Prediction and Pick

Madison Bumgarner and Kyle Freeland have had very similar seasons to this point. Both veteran lefties that have been ultra reliable, but not overly effective. Bumgarner has yet to miss a start taking the ball just about every five days but has a 4.68 fielding independent pitching, a career low strikeout rate and a career high hard hit percentage.

Freeland on the other hand has made just one less start but has pitched seven more innings than Bumgarner. He has a higher ERA, but a better FIP than Bumgarner, both are in the fours. Freeland only strikes out 6.2 batters per nine innings and is in the bottom 10% of the league in strikeout rate. Letting the hitter put the ball in play that often is never the best strategy when you pitch half your games at Coors Field. However, today they are in Arizona and the ball might stay in the ballpark a bit more.

The other good news for Colorado is their offensive splits when facing left-handed pitchers. I have to imagine they have the biggest discrepancy of any team from their right/left splits. Against right handers, their OPS is .685 as a team, against lefties it jumps to .805.

Pick: Rockies -110
