Tuesday’s MLB nightcap features two NL West rivals looking to rebound from a bad start to the month. The San Francisco Giants are in far better shape overall at 29-24 and a third-place ranking in the division.

However, the Giants are losers of three of their last five games and are now 5.5 games back from the Dodgers in first place. The Colorado Rockies, meanwhile, are on a four-game losing streak and well off the pace in the NL West with a 12-game gap between themselves and L.A.

Colorado is in trouble, to say the least, and won’t get much help on the mound tonight with German Marquez (1-5) making the start at Oracle Park.

Rockies vs. Giants Prediction and Pick

Marquez enters this matchup with a 6.71 ERA and brutal 1.62 WHIP in 55 innings in 2022. And while that is bad enough as is, Marquez is progressively getting worse. His month-to-month ERA rose from 5.57 in April to 6.83 in May.

So far in June, Marquez’s ERA has ballooned to 10.80 thanks to a six-run performance against the Miami Marlins last week. Marquez gave up three home runs in that game while striking out five and walking three. It was the third game in a row that Marquez gave up five or more runs in six innings or fewer. In fact, excluding his first start of the year, Marquez hasn’t given up less than three runs all season.

While the Giants are struggling a bit to start June, they still rank third in the MLB in runs scored per game and should have a field day with Marquez on the mound. The Giants also have a massive edge in this pitching matchup with Carlos Rodon making the start at home.

Rodon hasn’t been as sharp as many expected him to be, but he is coming off a very good start against the Phillies last week. Overall, Rodon carries a 3.44 ERA and 1.25 WHIP into this game. Rodon pitched well in his last start against the Rockies after giving up two runs over six innings in an 8-5 victory.

But, I think he got away easily in that game. I think Rodon is a very good pitcher but he has been terrible against the current Rockies roster. As a group, they are hitting .335 against Rodon with an OPS of .846.

While I don’t think the Rockies are a great bet to win this game despite their success against Rodon, I do like him to get tossed around a bit. Considering my overall lack of faith in Marquez, I think the over is a solid play to end the night with a win.

Pick: OVER 8 (-105)
