The San Francisco Giants host the Colorado Rockies at 3:45 PM EST in the final game of a three-game series.
It's a fantastic pitching matchup as Alex Cobb takes on Chad Kuhl. Cobb has a 4.80 ERA, but his advanced metrics and 2.22 FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) suggest he's been one of the best pitchers in the league this year.
Kuhl, meanwhile, has thrown a quality start in each of his last four outings and sports a sterling 1.82 ERA. He's yet to lose a start this year and may quietly start generating modest Cy Young buzz if he continues at this pace.
Which pitcher has the edge here? Can the Rockies overcome their road woes to notch a victory or will San Francisco prevail?

Rockies vs Giants Prediction and Pick
Poor Alex Cobb has been extremely unlucky. His 4.80 ERA is not at all representative of what he's brought to the table this year. I've been banging this drum in previews for each of his last two starts, but I'm going to just keep showing his pitching profile from Baseball Savant until his baseline numbers catch up with the advanced stats:

Yeah, this guy's got the goods. Eventually, low run totals will follow this incredible profile. I think that day is today. Colorado is the league's best offense against left-handed pitchers, but they're merely good against right-handers.
And on the road? Oh my, the Rockies are a mess. They're 1-7 in their last eight away from home and have averaged a meager 2.38 runs per game in that stretch.
On the other end, Chad Kuhl gets a stiff test against a Giants offense that ranks 7th in OPS against righty's. He's up to the task though. He's thrown a quality start in four straight, giving up only five runs in 25.1 innings of work for a 1.79 ERA.
San Francisco is due for some regression after scoring 25 runs over their last three games. Prior to that hot stretch, they scored only five runs in four contests. That's going to give us value on these lines, especially against a strong pitcher like Kuhl. Give me the first five under and no run in the first inning as Colorado's road struggles continue.
