Rockies vs. Marlins Prediction and Odds for Thursday, June 23 (Side with Freeland and Colorado in Series Finale)
By Matt De Saro
Two struggling National League teams look to try and claw their way a little closer to contention today in South Beach. The Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins are both having a myriad of issues this season. The Marlins entered this three-game series on Tuesday coming off a 3-5 record in their previous eight games. They are fourth in the NL East thanks to how dreadful the Nationals are in fifth. The Rockies, meanwhile, are dead last in the NL West and lost Game 1 to the Marlins 9-8 on Tuesday.
Neither starting pitcher tonight is particularly exciting and we might be in for another high-scoring night in Miami.
Here are the odds for this game from consensus sportsbooks.

Rockies vs. Marlins Prediction and Pick
Braxton Garrett will make his fourth start of the season for the Marlins despite a shaky first few appearances. He enters this clash at 1-2 with a 4.85 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 13 innings. He’s already given up two home runs and didn’t strike out a single batter over four innings in his last start.
His career ERA is 5.10 with a 1.74 WHIP so his first three starts have been on brand. He has some history with the Rockies too and the current lineup is hitting .312 against him. He’s also been awful at home this year with a 10.80 ERA in 3 ⅓ short innings.
Kyle Freeland has been struggling as well at 3-5 with a 4.46 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 72 ⅔ innings. However, Freeland’s stats are heading in the right direction and he’s been getting better as the season progresses. Freeland finished April with a 6.16 ERA and May at 4.28. So far in three June starts, Freeland’s ERA is a very nice 3.15 over 20 innings. He’s pitched into the sixth inning in each of those three starts without posting a loss
Overall these two teams match up well but with a gap in talent on the mound today. I like that Freeland continues to improve his overall numbers and leads Colorado to a win on the road.
Pick: Rockies -115 ML
