The Philadelphia Phillies have to be among the biggest disappointments so far in the NL this year. Many expected them to compete for the division title along with the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves.

The Rockies, on the other hand, are playing a bit better than many had expected. Colorado is third in a very competitive NL West and has recent series wins over the Tigers and Phillies. The Rockies took two of three from the Phillies at Coors Field last week and look to continue beating this struggling team.

Rockies vs. Phillies Prediction and Pick

I think what is happening to the Phillies is pretty obvious. The team is built around a star-studded offense, but up until last night, those big bats just weren't putting up big numbers. To be fair, the Phillies are the fifth-best team in the MLB in terms of batting average. But, they are the 14th ranked team in runs per game. Colorado, meanwhile, has the second-best batting average in the MLB and ranks eighth in runs per game.

Another major issue plaguing the Phillies right now is their bullpen. Philly’s relievers have the highest combined ERA in the league at 4.57. This issue is made worse by the fact that they have the 26th-ranked ERA as a team overall. This means that their starters are struggling and are not going deep enough into games.

So, let's review. The Phillies can hit, but fail to score at a high rate with three RLISP per game. They also have a very suspect pitching staff. They have one of the highest ERAs as a team and the worst bullpen in all of baseball in terms of earned runs. I'll take a shot on the road team here to come away with a Game 2 win in this series.

Pick: Rockies ML +155
