Rory McIlroy started the week at 20/1 to win The Masters; standing just one major championship away from the career grand slam.

While his first day's score ended up fine, firing a 73 (-1), six shots back of Sung-Jae Jim for the top spot, now might be an ideal time to buy low on McIlroy's odds at WynnBET Sportsbook heading into Round 2.

Justin Ray, the outstanding golf data analyst with Twenty First Group compiled total scores by round in all the major championships going back to 2015. What he found was that McIlroy's final numbers from these majors don't tell the entire story.

Since 2015, McIlroy is 34 strokes over par in Day 1 of Major Championships. However, in Days 2-4, he's 60 strokes UNDER par. The only two players on Tour with better scores on the final 54 holes than McIlroy are Brooks Koepka, and Jordan Spieth; both of which have combined to win seven majors during that time.

Rory McIlroy Is a Perfect Buy Low Candidate at The Masters

This has been a notable trend especially over the last two times he's played Augusta National. In 2020, McIlroy started Round 1 with a 75, three shots over par before firing a 66 on Friday and finishing fifth with a 67 and 69 over the weekend. The year before, he started with a 73, before improving his score in every round and wrapping with a finish in 21st.

McIlroy has shot an opening round in the 60s only once in the last nine times he's played, yet has six top 10 finishes in the process, and three top 5's as well.

Right now at WynnBET Sportsbook, McIlroy has dropped to +3000 . Compared to his opening number, as someone who has consistently contended at Augusta National, this is the perfect buy-low spot to fire a dart and hope a bulls-eye hits.
