Do you hear that? Is that a Kansas City futures bet calling our name??

No, it's not. But the 24-42 Royals have won four of five as they take on the 33-37 Los Angeles Angels tonight at 9:38 p.m. EST.

Jonathan Heasley makes his eighth start of the season for Kansas City and found a groove lately. He's got a 2.65 ERA in June and has a quality start in three of his last four outings.

Los Angeles counters with Reid Detmers, behind whom the Angels have lost five straight. Detmers hasn't made it through the fifth inning yet this month as he's struggled with command, but still has a 3.72 ERA on the season.

Can Detmers finally get another win or will Heasley stay hot and propel the Royals to a fifth victory in six games?

To answer those questions, let's peak at the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook ahead of this Royals vs Angels matchup:

Royals vs Angels Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Royals +1.5 (-145)
  • Angels -1.5 (+120)

Moneyline:

  • Royals: +149
  • Angels: -159

Total:

  • 9.0 (Over -110/Under -110)

Royals vs Angels Prediction and Pick

OK, at this point I'm convinced the Angels are pulling some kind of elaborate rookie hazing prank on Reid Detmers. They've lost five straight games he's started but not because of poor pitching performance. Here's how many runs Los Angeles scored in that stretch: 1, 0, 1, 2, 5. Say it with me: Oof.

The Angels are hitting better of late, but I'm a bit stunned they're this large of favorites tonight. Kansas City hits left-handed pitching pretty well and Detmers has a command problem. His 3.23 walks per nine innings is the 10th-worst among all qualified pitchers, and the Royals draw walks at a top-10 rate in MLB on the road.

Jonathan Heasley struggles with command as well, but he's issued only four in 17 innings this month while Detmers has allowed eight in 12.1 innings. Heasley has gone at least six innings in three of his last four outings and Detmers hasn't made it through the fifth in his last three.

It's quite possible Heasley is the Royals best starting pitcher, which is an insane thing to think about but if the shoe fits, wear it.

I just can't trust the Angels, especially not at -159 odds. They're 1-7 in their last eight as a home favorite while Kansas City has three straight wins as road underdogs. At worst, I'd make the Angels very slight favorites, but even then I'd think there's value on the Royals. But to get juicy +149 odds to fade the most disappointing team in baseball? Well, that sounds dandy, indeed.

Back the Royals to give the Angels a sixth straight loss behind Detmers. Here's hoping this rookie hazing thing stops soon, for their sake.

Pick: Royals (+149)
