As the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers determine who will play key roles on their respective 2023 rosters, today's matchup sets up as a great "prove-it" game for pitchers Daniel Lynch and Drew Hutchison.

Both have shown promise, with Lynch allowing three runs or fewer in eight of his last 10 starts and Hutchison compiling a 3.04 ERA this month, but each has enough flaws to cause concern.

Which club has the edge today? Can either starter secure a 2023 rotation spot with a strong performance?

The Tigers and unders are a match made in heaven. Move over peanut butter and jelly, there's a new perfect marriage in town.

In Detroit's last dozen home games, the UNDER is 10-1-1. Both lineups are really struggling right now, so I'm going right back to the under well today in hopes of drawing a bucket full of dollars.

Over the last three weeks, the Tigers rank 25th in OPS against left-handed pitchers. I expect Daniel Lynch to take advantage, relying on his long frame and deceptive breaking pitches to fool Detroit's lineup.

Kansas City hasn't fared much better of late, ranking 27th in OPS against righties in the last three weeks. Drew Hutchison has six straight starts without allowing more than three runs, showcased increased comfort with his starting role.

With poor lineups and improving starting pitchers, I expect another low-scoring contest today. Not only is the UNDER a great bet in Detroit games, but it's also 11-4-1 in the Royals' last 16 matchups as road favorites. It's 4-2 in Lynch's previous six starts and 4-1-1 in Hutchison's.

Combine these trends with the outlook for this game, and you've got a tasty UNDER sandwich ripe for the picking.
