Russell Westbrook Triple-Double Prediction is Good Sign for Wizards Against Celtics
By Peter Dewey
At this point, Russell Westbrook triple-doubles are a formality. For the fourth time in five seasons, Westbrook finished the season averaging a triple-double and his play down the stretch of the 2020-21 regular season propelled the Washington Wizards into the No. 8 seed in the East.
Tonight, Westbrook has a triple-double player prop on WynnBET in the Wizards’ play-in clash against the Boston Celtics. Unsurprisingly, Russ is heavily favored (-300) to record a triple-double rather than not (+225) and Wizards fans should be excited by those odds.
This season, Washington is 23-15 when Westbrook records a triple-double, and it could be one of the keys to the Wizards pulling off the upset and locking down the No. 7 seed in the East. Obviously, Washington wants to win tonight to avoid playing a win-or-go-home game for the No. 8 seed later this week.
Over his last 36 games, Westbrook has recorded 28 triple-doubles. He’s recorded 38 triple-doubles in 65 games this season, but since March 13 he’s put one up 77.8 percent of the time.
Westbrook truly is a one-of-a-kind player, and there’s a reason why he has the most triple-doubles in NBA history. But the fact that it has been translating to wins for the Wizards makes it even more important that he stuff the stat sheet on Tuesday.
The high-octane pace at which Westbrook plays could benefit the Wizards since Boston is without its second-leading scorer, Jaylen Brown. If Westbrook has high rebound and assist totals, it likely means that he is able to push the break and get the rest of the Wizards easy baskets in transition.
Boston has limped into the play-in tournament, figuratively and literally, and may not have the bodies (Marcus Smart can’t guard five guys at once) defensively to match up with Russ. If you’re pulling for the Wizards, a Westbrook triple-double is a good sign that they’ll pull off the upset.
