Russell Wilson Not Following Aaron Rodgers' Lead

Russell Wilson put the Seattle Seahawks in a weird position during the offseason.

While he never officially requested a trade, Wilson had a list of teams that he preferred to go to if a trade was going to happen. On that list were the Cowboys, Saints, Bears and Raiders. Offers were presented to the Seahawks, but Wilson was never ultimately traded. 

However, Wilson was at odds with Seattle’s front office. It wasn’t clear what exactly Russell wanted, but it was known that something wasn’t right. Months after Wilson’s reported grievances, Aaron Rodgers announced hours before the NFL Draft he didn’t want to play in Green Bay anymore. 

Rodgers is coming off an MVP season that was preceded by the Packers trading back into the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to take Jordan Love. That signaled the writing on the wall for Rodgers and let him know his time was coming to an end. Rodgers has stuck to his stance that he will not play for the Packers again. With OTAs beginning, Rodgers’ commitment to his statement will be tested, even though it looks like he will not be reporting.

Wilson, on the other hand, is taking a different approach. Wilson posted a video on Instagram of him flying into Seattle for team activities. Before that, he had been working out in San Diego away from the team. 

With Wilson back in the fold, Seattle is back on track. The Seahawks are in the most competitive division in football, the NFC West, and they have no chance to win it if Wilson isn’t in the building.
