Ryder Cup Odds: Europe Set as Underdog as Rosters Begin to Take Form
Now that the stretch of seven major tournaments over an 11 month span is completed, the golf world will turn its attention to the Ryder Cup, which was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
WynnBET has released odds for the biannual tournament, and it has Team USA set as a sizable -170 favorite with Team Europe set as +160 underdogs. The draw, which hasn’t occurred since 1989, has +1100 odds.
This year’s edition of the event is set to take place at Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin.
2021 Ryder Cup: Who Will Be on Team USA?
While there’s still two months worth of events to be played before the final Ryder Cup rosters are set, the top six golfers who will qualify based on points are all but locked in. Those golfers include Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Xander Schauffele.
The next handful of events will play a large role in determining who USA captain Steve Stricker will choose as his six captain’s picks. Patrick Reed, Harrish English, Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau, Daniel Berger, and Webb Simpson are among the list of names that will be considered.
USA won the last Ryder Cup that was hosted in the United States, which occurred in 2016 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota. Team USA has an all-time record in the Ryder Cup of 26-14-2.
2021 Ryder Cup: Who Will Be on Team Europe?
Team Europe enters the event having won four of the last five and seven of the last nine Ryder Cups. They’ll look to defend their title, winning the 2018 event that took place in Le Golf National in France.
Jon Rahm is a lock to represent Europe for the second time, securing almost twice as many Ryder Cup qualifying points than Tommy Fleetwood who is in second. Fleetwood will also represent Europe, as he was one of the stars of the team that won in 2018. Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rory McIlroy and Bernd Wiesberger round out the golfers who are currently qualifying based on points.
Europe’s captain, Pádraig Harrington, will have a plethora of talent to choose from for his captain’s picks. Among those who may round out the roster are names such as Victor Perez, Paul Casey, Robert MacIntyre, Viktor Hovland and Lee Westwood.
Given Europe’s recent Ryder Cup success, they could be a great bet at +160 odds.
The 2021 Ryder Cup is scheduled to begin on Sept. 24.
