The Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints renew their preseason rivalry this week. This is the start of new eras for both teams, as each franchise has a new head coaches Lovie Smith is taking over for David Culley and Dennis Allen is taking over for Sean Payton.

Houston is expected to be near the bottom of the league again, but will this be the first step forward in the rebuilding process? Or will Dennis Allen continue to keep the Saints afloat in this time of transition?

Here are the odds for their matchup via WynnBET.

Saints vs. Texans Spread, Odds and Over/Under

Spread:

  • Saints: -1.5 (-110)
  • Texans: +1.5 (-110)

Moneyline:

  • Saints: -125
  • Texans: +105

Total: 33.5 (Over: -110/Under: -110)

Saints vs. Texans Prediction and Pick

As we saw last season, the Saints quarterback depth is absolutely terrible. Ian Book will likely see the field a majority of the time, and I don’t like that at all for New Orleans. The Saints, however, do have newfound depth at the wide receiver position, making this game more interesting than what it would’ve been last season.

The Texans are now led by Lovie Smith, who rarely starts the preseason off on the right foot. In his career, he’s 3-8 ATS in Week 1 of the preseason. The Texans don’t have great quarterbacks either, but their offense is going to come from the running backs with Royce Freeman lining up as the fourth-string back.

Still, I’m going to fade the Texans in this game and trust that Lovie Smith is the same coach he’s been for 11 seasons.

Pick: Saints -1.5 (-110)
