Sammy Watkins’ Confidence in Ravens’ Passing Game Not Reflected in Vegas Odds

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Sammy Watkins is looking to make an impression on his new team, but the odds at WynnBET don’t have Watkins or the Ravens thriving through the air.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson is just +15000 to lead the NFL in passing yards, which is tied with Drew Lock, Jimmy Garoppolo, Justin Fields and Trey Lance.

It’s an uninspiring spot, but not an unexpected one, as Jackson is the ultimate dual-threat and has run for over 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons.

Watkins thinks the Ravens’ can have one the league’s best groups in receiving, but the odds say otherwise.

"I was the oldest guy in the receivers' room in Kansas City, and I'm bringing that same thing here," Watkins said. "We're going to be unselfish. We're going to play for each other. We're going to try not to have egos involved. We feel like this group is young, but we want the best for each other. If we can keep that mentality all throughout the season, this receiver group can be one of the best in the league."

The Ravens’ commitment to the running game has severely hurt the upside on their receiving core. The only Raven listed on the odds to lead the NFL in receiving is Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, and he has the longest odds at +50000.

That doesn’t mean Baltimore won’t have a good offense, as WynnBET has the Ravens listed with the sixth-best odds to lead the NFL in scoring this season.

Watkins certainly brings a new dynamic to the offense alongside Brown, Mark Andrews and rookie Rashod Bateman, but that doesn’t mean the Ravens will be a pass-first team by any means this season.

I love Watkins' confidence, but bettors should definitely temper their expectations for the Ravens to take major strides in the passing game this season.
