The San Antonio Spurs lost star forward DeMar DeRozan this offseason, and they have tried to piece together some replacements for him with the signing of Doug McDermott and the drafting of Joshua Primo in the first round.

Primo is a solid young guard who fits in with a core of Derrick White, Dejounte Murray, Keldon Johnson, Lonnie Walker and Devin Vassell, but the Spurs lack any star power this season in the Western Conference.

Gregg Popovich was able to get his team into the NBA’s Play-In Tournament last season, but he faces a much tougher task in the 2021-22 season.

White and Murray both could have breakout seasons, and Keldon Johnson showed that he has immense potential in Team USA’s Olympic Gold Medal run this offseason.

Still, the Spurs are young and will need several players to overachieve if they want to have a shot at the playoffs this season. It could happen, but the oddsmakers at WynnBET view the Spurs as a team that could be competing for a top-five pick more than an actual playoff contender.

San Antonio Spurs Win Total Prediction | 28.5 (Over -125/Under +105)

Vegas is only giving the Spurs one more win than the Houston Rockets heading into this season, but the over (-125) is heavily favored

I think that the over is the play here, as the Spurs have proven players like Murray and White and just need one young player to pop to go above the Rockets-Orlando Magic-Cleveland Cavaliers tier in the NBA this season.

I still don’t think they’re pushing .500 this season, but the Spurs aren’t going to be the worst team in the league with Popovich as their head coach.

San Antonio Spurs Playoff Odds

The Spurs are +1000 to make the postseason and -2500 to miss at WynnBET. This seems like a fair number considering they did lose their best player this offseason.

As much as Popovich’s teams always seem to be in the playoff picture, I don’t see this Spurs team being ready to compete for another year or two. Johnson could be a budding star, and the Spurs just need a few more of the young guys to take a step this year to be firmly in the playoff conversation come the 2022-23 season.
