The late-night West Coast Conference action on Tuesday features a strong matchup between the San Diego Toreros and No. 22 St. Mary’s Gaels at the University Credit Union Pavillion. The Gaels are coming off a tough loss to Santa Clara last week 77-72 and need a bounce-back win here if they have any hope of catching Gonzaga atop the conference standings.

At 7-2 in the WCC, the Gaels not only have to beat San Diego tonight but also Gonzaga twice over their last five games to realize that dream. After losing to Santa Clara their chances are pretty much nil, but, either way, this is a must-win game for the Gaels.

Here are the odds for this WCC matchup, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

San Diego vs. St. Mary's Prediction and Pick

The Gaels watched as a seven-game win streak, and a chance at the WCC crown evaporated into the night sky after losing to Santa Clara by five as 2.5 point favorites. It was the worst time for an upset loss as they were just one game behind Gonzaga with two games to play against the Bulldogs in the next couple of weeks. The team was let down by their defense against the Broncos who scored 77 points on 55 percent overall shooting.

The Gaels average 60 points per game on defense and rank eighth in the nation at preventing opponents from scoring. Just chalk this one up to a well-below-average performance coming at the worst possible time for St. Mary’s.

This game, however, will go much differently I believe. For starters, the Broncos do have the 27th ranked offense. So while it was surprising to see them drop 70 on the Gaels, it’s not an instance feat. The Toreros, on the other hand, have the 283rd ranked scoring offense in the country.

This, I say, is far from good enough to hang with the likes of St. Mary’s. The Toreros' defense is average but, without any real scoring threat, the Gaels are going to roll right past them.

Lean: St. Mary's -15 (-110)
