Scottie Scheffler may need to find a new favorite golf course.

With the projected cut at +4, the odds-on favorite at WynnBET Sportsbook to win his second straight major is going home early. Scheffler will miss the mark by two strokes at Southern Hills for the 2022 PGA Championship following a five-over 75 on Day 2.

The swirling winds of 15-25 miles-per-hour, along with gusts up to 35-plus on Thursday afternoon into Friday didn't do many favors for Scheffler. The 25-year old, along with Dustin Johnson and Patrick Cantlay, each finished several strokes back of the cut line; with Johnson at +6, and Cantlay at +11.

Scheffler, the top ranked golfer in the world, as well as in the FedEx Cup standings struggled in multiple areas on Friday, hitting just 44.4% of greens in regulation, while losing 1.8 strokes putting. His driving accuracy was also far below average, hitting at just under 43%.

Johnson, a multiple major winner on Tour, was a little more consistent; firing back-to-back three-over-par 73s on Thursday and Friday. Like Scheffler, his putting was all over the place, losing 2.1 strokes with the flat stick on Friday, and more than 3.2 strokes putting for the tournament.

As for Cantlay, the fifth-ranked FedEx cup golfer and No. 5 ranked golfer in the world never got on track from the get-go. He struggled on the back nine Thursday with four bogeys; finishing with a six-over 76. On Day 2, it was more of the same; with three bogeys on the front nine, and missed just under three full strokes putting on Friday.

As for Tiger Woods, he appeared to be on the outside looking in to remain in action before a late rally to go to 3-over par for the tournament; one stroke off the cut line.Woods was listed at WynnBET at 100/1 to win the PGA Championship, his longest pre-tournament odds ever.

Heading into Saturday, Justin Thomas initially left the course Friday afternoon as the outright leader. Will Zalatoris is the current leader after 36 holes, sitting at 9-under par; taking the outright lead with a 4-under on the back nine.

Per historian Clyde Chrisman, in all 10 PGA tournaments that have taken place at Southern Hills, the leader after two days has gone on to win the tournament.
