There are plenty of ways to bet on this week's marquee golf event, the Scottish Open.

Let's take a look at some 3-ball bets for Thursday's opening round. These are one round bets on a golfer to finish with the lowest score in the threesome that he's playing in that day.

I have three 3-ball bets for Round 1. Let's jump into them.

Scottish Open Round 1 3-Ball Bets

  • Xander Schauffele +165 vs. McIlroy/Thomas
  • Ryan Fox +150 vs. Conners/Hoge
  • Luke List +188 vs. Hall/Arnaus

Xander Schauffele +165 vs. McIlroy/Thomas

The defending champ, Xander Schauffele, will tee-it-up in Scotland again this week as he tries to defend his title. For Round 1, he's paired up with Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.

I have zero concern about Thomas in this group. His game has been in shambles for months now, and he's coming off a missed cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He also missed the cut at this event last year.

So really, in my mind, this bet is between Shauffele and McIlroy. McIlroy missed the cut here in 2021, the last time he competed at the Scottish Open. He also ranks just sixth in first round scoring average, whereas Schauffele ranks sixth.

I think that's enough to give Xander the advantage.

Ryan Fox +150 vs. Conners/Hoge

Corey Conners has struggled whenever he has played in the United Kingdom. He missed the cut here in 2021 and finished just 61st here last year. Tom Hoge, the third member of this group, also missed the cut in Scotland last year.

Fox, meanwhile, is a great fit for this course and has finished in the top 50 the last two years. He's also had one of his best seasons of his golf career. He has gained strokes with his approach play in five straight starts. I love him in this spot at +150.

Luke List +188 vs. Hall/Arnaus

Luke List is notorious for being a fantastic ball striker, but a terrible putter. Luckily for him, the fescue greens in Scotland are going to even the field when it comes to putting. Its slow speeds will allow golfers who struggle with the flat stack to find their footing on the greens.

Meanwhile, Hall has gone T34, T56, and a missed cut in his last three starts. Adri Arnaus hasn't finished better than 70th in seven straight events.

I'll back List in this group at +188.
