Seahawks Biggest Failure is Jamal Adams, And That's Saying A Lot

Jamal Adams will miss the rest of the season with a torn labrum. The injury is to the same shoulder that caused an early end to his season last year as well. Although Adams is expected to be fully healthy for the 2022 campaign, this just furthers the idea that the Seahawks lost the trade for Jamal Adams.

The most obvious reason they lost the trade is that Seattle would currently have the No. 5 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, this year’s pick is with the Jets, giving them the No. 4 and No. 5 picks in the draft if the season ended today.

Aside from a losing out on a potential top 5 draft pick, Adams is signed until the 2026 season as the highest paid safety in the league. This is now two straight seasons that he can’t finish and he hasn’t even turned 30 years old yet.

Adams and the Seahawks secondary hasn’t performed to the level one would hope. Seattle is dead-last in the league in passing yards allowed per game. This is a regression from last season, when they were the third-worst team against the pass.

At 4-8, Seattle is set for a rebuild, as the Russell Wilson rumors begin to bubble again. If Wilson leaves, then the Seahawks are left with an overpaid safety with injury issues and little to no trade value.

Unless Adams comes back and lives up to what he’s being paid, the Seahawks will continue to be the losers of that trade. For a team that had playoff hopes this season, his injury is the straw that broke the camel’s back for a terrible season.
