The Seattle Seahawks have stumbled in recent weeks and are now on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs.

Thing don't get easier for them this week. They now have to head to Arrowhead on Christmas Eve to take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

While the spread may be lopsided, I'd make the case that Seattle will be more compettive in this game than you might think.

Seahawks vs. Chiefs Odds, Spread, and Total

Seahawks vs. Chiefs Betting Trends

  • Seahawks are 0-5 ATS in their last five games
  • The OVER is 8-4 in the Seahawks' last 12 games
  • Chiefs are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against Chiefs
  • Seahawks are 1-12 straight up in last 13 games in Kansas City
  • Seahawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against AFC opponents
  • Chiefs are 1-4 ATS in their last five games
  • Chiefs are 5-0 ATS in their last five games against NFC opponents

Seahawks vs. Chiefs Prediction and Pick

The Chiefs have shown to have a lot of issues defensively. Needing overtime to get past the Houston Texans is not a good sign.

Their biggest weak point is their red zone defense. They allow teams to score a touchdown on 68.75% of their red zone trips against them, which is the second highest rate in the NFL. Kansas City also ranks 19th in red zone defense and 23rd in opponent completion percentage.

Those stats play a big factor in their ability (or inability) to cover spread of larger than a touchdown. That's why I have no problem backing the Seahawks with the spread set at 9.5-points.

Especially considering the Seahawks are much better than their recent record indicates. In terms of net yards per play, Seattle ranks 10th in the NFL at +0.3. Their offense specifically has been extremely effective, ranking fifth in yards per play. Only the Chiefs, Dolphins, Bills and Eagles average more yards per play than Seattle.

The Seahawks biggest offensive strength is Geno Smith's completion percentage. He has completed 71.25% of his passes this season, which is the best mark in the NFL. Now, he can go up against a defense that allows plenty of completions, so I expect their offense to play well.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Seahawks win outright, but I'll gladly take the 9.5 points in this interconference showdown.
