Senators vs. Devils Prediction and Odds: Two Bad Defenses will be on Display in New Jersey

The Devils and Senators are two of the worst defenses in the NHL right now. Feels like a high-scoring game is on the horizon.

Sometimes you just have to appreciate the small wins in life. That is exactly what the Ottawa Senators are doing right now after winning consecutive games for the first time all season.

After beating both the Hurricanes and Avalance, they are the eighth-ranked team in the Atlantic Division. Their division rivals, the New Jersey Devils, are ranked sixth and looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

Statistically, the Senators are the worst defensive team in the NHL with a goal against per game average of 3.91. The Devils defense has been moderately better this year but is still a bottom ten group allowing 3.32 goals per game. However, the Devils’ defense has gone from bad to worse during their recent slide and has allowed 18 goals in those matchups. Their most recent loss to the Jets 8-4 was the fourth time all season they allowed 40 shots in a game. It was their third such game in a row.

Here are the odds for tonight’s matchup, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Sabres vs. Sharks Prediction and Pick

This game will be all about defense. Well, all about the lack of defense. The only problem is that these teams are pretty bad on offense too. The Sens average 2.59 goals per game and the Devils just 2.91 per game.

But, the Senators’ offense has perked up a bit recently. The same cannot be said for New Jersey. The last three games Ottowa has played have all gone over the total as has five of their last seven. The Devis too have hit the over in five straight and six of seven. While this is due mostly to bad defense on the Devils side, the Senators are actually scoring.

I expect both teams to score with relative ease due to the poor defenses on both sides and push this total over 6 with time to spare.

Pick: Senators & Devils OVER 6.0 (-115)
