Silva vs. Ortiz Odds: The Trend of MMA Fighters Turned Boxers Continues
Oh boy, here we go again.
Conor McGregor opened Pandora’s Box when he boxed Floyd Mayweather back in 2017.
He started a trend that spread throughout mixed martial arts, and now it seems like almost every fighter in the UFC wants to try their shot in the ring. McGregor was unsuccessful against Mayweather, and then both Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley lost to former YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul.
The only one, so far at least, who has had any success is Anderson Silva.
The former UFC Middleweight champion fought Julio César Chávez Jr. in a bout back in June of this year, and surprisingly defeated the former WBC middleweight champion via split decision.
But right after having a respectable win against an actual boxer, we’re right back to the sideshow.
Silva is set to take on fellow former UFC fighter Tito Ortiz in a boxing match this Saturday, September 11th. Ortiz has never had a professional boxing bout, and hasn’t fought in MMA since 2019, focusing the majority of his time on politics and conspiracy theories.
WynnBET Michigan has released odds for the fight, and it has Silva set as an overwhelming -1000 favorite which is an implied probability of 90.91%. If you’re feeling brave and want to bet on Ortiz, you can do so at +600.
The fight will serve as the co-main event in the PPV being hosted and promoted by Triller. The main event will be between Oscar De La Hoya and Vitor Belfort, but odds have not been released for that fight.
It’s going to be an ugly combination of fighters who are well past their prime competing in a sport they aren’t familiar with, but there’s no doubt that Silva will beat Ortiz in the co-main event bout.
The PPV event will begin at 9 pm EST on Saturday night.
