There's an intriguing matchup brewing in the second round of the 2022 French Open.

Sloane Stephens and Sorana Cristea are set to battle on clay on Wednesday, despite troubling form from both women.

Stephens secured her first win on the surface this season in three sets against world No. 102 Jule Niemeier, and now tries to break through to the third round against No. 26 Cristea.

What can we expect from two mercurial talents on clay?

Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Total: 20.5 (Over -115/Under -105)

Sloane Stephens vs. Sorana Cristea Prediction and Pick

I'm not dying to bet Cristea as a favorite given her up-and-down play on clay this season, but at least she has more reps on the surface, playing in 8 matches with a 4-4 mark. Meanwhile, Stephens lost her four matches in the lead up to the 2022 French, winning just two sets in the process.

Stephens will look to make another run after the 2021 Grand Slam which saw her make the round of 16 before losing in straight sets to Barbora Krejcikova, but her concerning play in the weeks prior to this event make me wary of placing a bet at these short of odds.

Both players have been prone to blowout victories, and I'm going to look to the total in this one. We should be able to tell quickly which player brought it to the court and an under is the best and safest way to play this one with volatile players on each side.

Again, Stephens has won just two sets in her four matches ahead of the French while Cristea has gone to three sets just twice in her eight matches.

LEAN: UNDER 20.5 (-105)
