Despite holding a flawless 10-0 record, the Cincinnati Bearcats will need plenty of things to go their way for them to be selected to compete in the College Football Playoff.

One way that Cincinnati can help build its resume, is to beat a tough SMU team in Week 12 in decisive fashion. In recent weeks, the Bearcats have been winning games but aren't doing so in a dominant way. They are only 5-5 against the spread this season, and have failed to cover in four straight weeks.

Meanwhile, SMU bounced back after losing two straight games with a 55-28 win over UCF in Week 11 action.

Let's take a look at the odds for this AAC showdown, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

SMU vs. Cincinnati Prediction and Pick

Both offensives are comparable in most statistics. SMU ranks ninth in the country in yards per play at 6.6, and Cincinnati is right behind them, ranking 11th in that stat at 6.5.

Where the difference between these two teams lie, is their defenes.

Cincinnati's defense is allowing teams to only gain an average of 4.3 yards per play, which is the seventh best mark in college football. SMU, on the other hand, is allowing opposing offenses to gain 5.6 yards per play which ranks 77th in the country.

The Mustangs are especially bad at stopping the pass, rankings 107th in opponent yards per pass attempt. This is going to give Heisman candidate Desmond Ridder plenty of opportunities to torch them through the air. Cincinnati will cover the spread for the first time in five games.

Pick: Cincinnati -12.5
