While this game will be played at UTEP, I don't believe it should be laying four points to this Southern Utah team that can draw a ton of fouls against a physical Miners defense.
The Thunderbirds are 54th in the country in free throw rate while UTEP is bottom 30 nationally at allowing trips to the charity stripe. SUU brings the far superior offense that is ranked 107th in KenPom's adjusted offensive efficiency metrics and can score from all 3 levels, which will be key against an aggressive UTEP perimeter defense that allows the 34th lowest 3-point rate in the country.
On the other, UTEP's inability to score from inside (261st nationally in two-point percentage) and generate second chances (323rd in offensive rebounding rate) will keep the visitors within shouting distance for a majority of this one.
I'll take the points against an overvalued UTEP team on its home court. For what it's worth, the team went 6-9 at Don Haskins Center this season and was 6-8 as a favorite.
