Sportsbooks Cash in as Patriots Cover vs. Brady, Buccaneers
By Ben Heisler
As the Buccaneers kicked their way to a 19-17 road victory over the Patriots in New England, with the exception of Tom Brady, nobody may have celebrated more than sportsbook directors across the country.
The Buccaneers were a resounding 7-point favorite coming into the game over at WynnBET after opening at 5.5 points. WynnBET announced via release on Sunday early evening that Tampa Bay at -7 was their highest liability of the Week 4 NFL slate.
Sportsbooks Won Big on Jets, Lost to Public on Chiefs and Packers
The Patriots weren't the only team that made for a big win for the sportsbooks today. The Jets, closing as 6.5-point home underdogs at home against the Titans came through with an outright 27-24 victory for their first win of the season. Via WynnBET, 94.7% of spread bets were on Tennessee, with 88.9% of the handle. At the time the early slate kicked off, Titans -6.5 was WynnBET's highest liability of the day before more bets came in on Tampa Bay.
Public bettors did have a couple of key victories on Sunday, however.
For the first time since Week 8 of 2020, the Chiefs covered the spread in a regular season game, dusting the Eagles 42-30 on the road. Kansas City took in 94.6% of the bets, and even more of the betting money at 96.8%.
Lastly, the Packers came through for public bettors as 6.5-point favorites vs. the Steelers at Lambeau Field. Green Bay got down early and almost let Pittsburgh back-door cover towards the end, but hung on for a 27-17 victory as Aaron Rodgers threw for two touchdowns and ran for another.
92.2% of the bets at WynnBET for Steelers vs. Packers came in on Green Bay, along with 91.4% of the money.
