The San Antonio Spurs have clinched a spot in the league’s play-in tournament, but they can still move up to the No. 9 seed with some solid play down the stretch of the 2021-22 season.

Tonight, the Spurs will hit the road to face Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves, another team in the play-in race at the No. 7 seed.

The Spurs have won three straight, upsetting the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday despite being without their best player Dejounte Murray (illness).

With Murray out again tonight, do the Spurs have enough in the tank to beat the Wolves?

Spurs vs. Timberwolves Prediction and Pick

Gregg Popovich’s team has been fantastic as a road underdog this season, going 18-12 against the spread, and I think there may be a bit of value on the Spurs even though Murray is out.

Over its last 10 games, San Antonio is third in the league in defensive rating and 10th in offensive rating while the Timberwolves are 24th and seventh in those respective categories.

Minnesota has been solid as a home favorite this season (15-10-2 against the spread), but looking at the Wolves recent form, I think this is a spot to fade them.

The Wolves have covered just twice in their last eight games, and the Spurs have been stingy team as of late, covering seven of eight games.

These two teams played a 149-139 affair in their last meeting, but with San Antonio’s improved defense, I think even a fast-paced game may go under 240, so I’ll back the Spurs as an underdog instead.

Lean: Spurs +8 (-108)
