The winning score at the British Open, as much as any of golf's major championship, depends on the weather. Get a gusty, rainy week and the players will struggle. Get a sunny, calm week and it'll turn into a birdie fest.

Looking at the weather for the 150th British Open (AKA The Open Championship), the players must be smiling. For now.

St. Andrews, Scotland Weather for Open Championship

The overall forecast for St. Andrews is favorable, with temperatures ranging between 54 and 72 degrees, a little rain projected for Friday morning but mostly sunny and overcast skies for Thursday-Sunday. More importantly, the wind is supposed to blow between 10 MPH to 15 MPH with gusts around 25 MPH. That's not nothing, but it's certainly not the 40 MPH wind that can wreak havoc on players at St. Andrews.

St. Andrews, Scotland Daily Weather Report

Thursday, July 14: Partly cloudy with minimal chance of rain. Temperatures between 54-67 Fahrenheit with winds between 10-15 MPH and gusts up to 25 MPH.

Friday, July 15: Mostly cloudy with 20-60% chance of rain between 5 AM-4 PM local time. Temperatures between 55-67 Fahrenheit with winds between 10-15 MPH and gusts up to 25 MPH.

Saturday, July 16: Partly cloudy with minimal chance of rain. Temperatures between 55-70 Fahrenheit with winds between 10-15 MPH.

Friday, July 15: Mostly cloudy with minimal chance of rain. Temperatures between 60-72 Fahrenheit with winds between 10-15 MPH.

With that in mind, I'd expect to see a low score win this championship, something in the 18-under-par area.

Zach Johnson won the title at St. Andrews in 2015 with a -15 score and Louis Oosthuizen won it there in 2010 with a -16 score. But let's not forget Tiger won with a -19 score in 2000 when conditions were likewise favorable, so expect some low rounds this week.
