A-10 Conference rivals, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, and the George Mason Patriots, are set to do battle tonight at the Eagle Bank Arena. This is a very important game for both teams, but specifically, the Bonnies who are 3-1 in the Atlantic 10 after beating Duquesne last week. The Bonnies sit behind just Davidson who is a perfect 6-0 in conference play as of today.

George Mason, the fifth ranked team in the conference, is also coming off a win after beating St. Joseph’s 77-71. They did fail to cover as seven-point home favorites but the win improved their record to 9-7 and 2-1 in the A-10.

St. Bonaventure vs. George Mason Prediction and Pick

At first glance, the Patriots might seem like an obvious underdog here. But I am not as convinced that they deserve to be.

First off, George Mason has the 22nd ranked defense in terms of rebounding and the 30th ranked offense in terms of shooting percentage. The Patriots also rank sixth in defensive rebound percentage at 80.9. George Mason also has some big-boy games under their belt. The Patriots outright beat Maryland and hung close to No. 5 Kansas in a loss in recent weeks.

While their record leaves a lot to be desired, it is worth noting that five of their seven losses came during the same stretch that ended in early December. Since Dec. 4, George Mason is 5-2 overall and coming off back-to-back wins over Dayton and St. Joseph’s.

Meanwhile, the biggest compliment I can give the Bonnies offense is that they rank 24th in free-throw shooting percentage. Other than that, they are awful from downtown, don’t generate steals, and are outside of the top 175 in overall scoring.

I think that the Patriots are one of the better underdogs on the card tonight and represent a good value to outright upset the Bonnies.

Pick: George Mason +125 to win
