UCLA looked like the Pac 12’s best hope of making it to the College Football Playoff this year, but as my theory goes; anytime the Pac 12 has a chance to eliminate itself from the playoff conversation they will do just that. Oregon is at the top of the conference after that 45-30 win over the Bruins, but I’m not sure a 49-3 loss to Georgia will sit too well with the committee.

UCLA is still 6-1, just outside of the top 10, and could bounce back, but they might need to beat up on Stanford to prove that they still belong. The Cardinal is 3-4, coming off a 15-14 win over Arizona State and are big underdogs, so let’s take a look at the odds.

Stanford vs. UCLA Odds, Spread and Total

UCLA and Stanford Betting Trends

  • UCLA is 4-3 ATS
  • Stanford is 2-5 ATS
  • The Over is 6-1 in UCLA games
  • Stanford is 0-4 ATS following a Straight Up win
  • Stanford is 5-0-1 ATS in last six vs. UCLA

Stanford vs. UCLA Prediction and Pick

UCLA is top 10 in the nation in total offense, Stanford is No. 70. That alone explains the 16.5 point spread. When it comes to total defense, UCLA is 64th and Stanford is 93rd. That almost makes me think that 16.5 points isn’t enough.

Tanner McKee is the saving grace for the Cardinal. He will be the best quarterback on the field Saturday. At least, when it comes to throwing the ball. Last week, McKee threw for 320 yards on 57 attempts, but had no touchdowns and an interception. The offense only scored 15 points. He will move the ball some on UCLA, but not nearly enough. There just aren't nearly enough playmakers around him.

UCLA will be able to run all over Stanford’s 113th ranked defense in rush yards per game. Zach Charbonnet and Dorian Thompson-Robinson will run the ball all day, and I have to think that Chip Kelly’s offense will be humming this week. The Bruins need a big win to reassert themselves in that conference and I fully expect them to get it.

Pick: UCLA -16.5 (-107)
