Steelers vs. Browns Best Prop Bets for Thursday Night Football (Trust Mitch Trubisky to Throw Often in Cleveland)
By Peter Dewey
Two AFC North rivals square off on Thursday Night Football this week, as the 1-1 Cleveland Browns host the 1-1 Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cleveland is coming off a gut-wrenching loss to the New York Jets, but it has seen some impressive offensive performances despite having Jacoby Brissett under center.
If you’re looking to bet more than just a side in this game, you’ve come to the right place, as I have three prop bets to consider for this Thursday night game, including my favorite player to score a touchdown this week.
Best Prop Bets for Steelers vs. Browns on Thursday Night Football
- Kareem Hunt Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+165)
- Mitch Trubisky OVER 19.5 Passing Completions (-122)
- Najee Harris OVER 17.5 Receiving Yards (-114)
Kareem Hunt Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+165)
The Cleveland Browns have been rolling on the ground early in the season, and I expect that to remain the formula as long as Jacoby Brissett is the team’s starting quarterback.
Hunt, who scored two touchdowns in Week 1, failed to get in the end zone last week, but there’s a ton of value on him at +165. His fellow running back, Nick Chubb, is -115 to score, but the Browns have split the red zone touches between the two backs this season.
Hunt has seven red zone looks to Chubb’s eight, and both running backs are in the top five for red zone touches this season. Hunt has touched the ball 15 times in each of the first two games, so I love him to get back in the end zone on Thursday night.
Mitch Trubisky OVER 19.5 Passing Completions (-122)
It’s a tough pill to swallow backing any Trubisky passing prop, but one thing we know is that the volume will be there.
The Steelers have let Trubisky throw the ball 38 and 33 times through the first two weeks, and he’s registered 21 completions in each game. The Browns haven’t been great against the pass, allowing the eighth most yards in the NFL and 43 completions to the likes of Joe Flacco and Baker Mayfield.
This should be an easier matchup for Mitch, even with the tough Cleveland pass rush.
Najee Harris OVER 17.5 Receiving Yards (-114)
If the Steelers are going to struggle run blocking all season, they need to get the ball into Najee Harris’ hands in space somehow, so why not through the passing game?
Harris made five catches for 40 yards in Week 2 against the New England Patriots, and in his career he has 12 games (out of 19) where he’s totaled 18 or more receiving yards.
The Steelers could combat the Browns’ elite pass rush by using screens or checkdowns to Harris to get the ball out quickly.
