Steve Nash Now Sole Favorite for Coach of the Year

I’m so close to giving up hope that the Brooklyn Nets won’t win the NBA Championship this season. With Kevin Durant as one of the early favorites to win MVP, James Harden projected to win the assist title and Kyrie Irving coming off a 50/40/90 season, Brooklyn is set up perfectly to cruise through the regular season.

On top of that, Steve Nash is now in sole possession of the best odds to win Coach of the Year. When WynnBET opened those odds, Nash was tied with Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra at +900. Now, Nash is at +750 and is expected to lead the Nets to a championship season.

Tom Thibadeau won Coach of the Year this past season for taking the New York Knicks to .500, much higher than what the expectation was going into the year. While Nash doesn’t have the luxury of low expectations, that doesn’t mean he can’t come out of the season with the trophy.

Seven of the last 10 winners have coached a team with at least a .700 win percentage. Now that the NBA is back to a full 82-game schedule, that would mean the Nets would need to win at least 57 wins to fit into that trend.

The Nets finished last season with a .667 win percentage, but that was with the Big 3 missing games left and right. Brooklyn finally came together in the playoffs and looked dominant. If the Nets are truly dominant, then giving the award to Nash -- similar to Steve Kerr winning during the Golden State Warriors’ 73-9 season -- won’t be a hard choice.

Brooklyn is going to be healthy this season, and if they are, expect them to make the regular season seem easy.
