Sun Belt Conference Odds & Season Preview
Who doesn’t love the Sun Belt Conference?
Well, probably most people. But it is college football so we can (and will) bet on it!
Coastal Carolina put the conference on the map last season, sporting an undefeated 11-0 regular season record and finishing with a final AP Poll ranking of 12. It fell to Liberty in a heartbreaking overtime loss in the Cure Bowl, but the Chanticleers were a fun story to follow throughout the season.
Despite last season's success, Coastal Carolina is not the betting favorite to win the Sun Belt this season.
Odds to win the Sun Belt Conference

- Appalachian State +325
- Troy +1700
- Georgia State +2250
- Arkansas State +2500
- Texas State +3000
- Georgia Southern +4000
- South Alabama +7500
- Louisiana-Monroe +15000
Three Teams in the Sun Belt Are Above the Rest
When looking at the betting odds, it’s clear that the Sun Belt will belong to one of three schools this season. Louisiana-Lafayette is the betting favorite at +140, but Coastal Carolina is right behind at +160. Appalachian State is within reach as well at +325 odds.
The biggest advantage for Louisiana is that there is no team that can challenge the Rajin’ Cajuns in the West Division. They’re more than likely going to reach the championship game for the third straight season, so their goal in 2021 will be to finally get over the hump and secure their first win.
The East division will be a close race between Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State. The Mountaineers have won the only two Sun Belt Conference Championship Games that have happened since being introduced in 2018, as last year’s edition between Coastal Carolina and Louisiana was declared a no contest.
With much of Coastal Carolina’s team returning from last season, expect them to have a real shot at running the table in the regular season once again.
The Chanticleers are ranked No. 22 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll, and Louisiana is ranked at No. 23. Appalachian State will enter the season unranked.
